Introduction

Department of Geography was established in 2016 with student intake of 07. The Department strives to empower students with knowledge and skills for spatial thinking. Apart from enhancing logical and reasoning capacity of students through choice based syllabi to have a competitive edge in NET/JRF/SLET, the Department also provides students with skills to tackle real world problems and contribute to society in a meaningful way. One of the main objectives of the Department is to inculcate the interest of geographical understanding among students through organizing different academic programme and extracurricular activities. The department is well equipped with world class lecture-rooms, seminar halls, Remote sensing and G.I.S (Geographical information system) laboratories with the latest networking, internet and high computing facility. Admission to the geography course is done by Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET) wherein students opt for Bhaderwah Campus during counseling in the Geography department at Jammu University, Main Campus. The sectioned strength of the course is 10seats inclusive of all categories..

  • Organized workshop on "CLIMATE CHANGE, CRYOSPHERE,HABITAT AND CHANGING LIVELIHOOD PATTERN OF LADHAK 13-14" October 2014.
  • Organized International Conference on “Change in cryosphere its impact on ecosystem services and rural livelihoods: understanding local Adaptation in the Himalayan region” 13-14 October 2014.
  • Organized National Conference on Change in cryosphere and its impacts on ecosystem services and rural livelihood :Climate change, Agricultural and sustainable development in the Himalayan region 21-22 November 2016.
  • Submitted a major project on AGRICULTURAL CONSTRAINTS IN COLD DESERT REGION ZANSKAR,LADHAK,JAMMU AND KASHMIR to ICSSR, New Delhi.
  • Implementing a major research project on INTERVENTION OF ARTIFICIAL GLACIER TECHNOLOGY TO SOLVE WATER CRISES DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGES IN LADHAK TRANS-HIMALAYAN REGION funded by DST, New Delhi.
  • Published an edited book on ‘ Change in Cryosphere its impact on ecosystem services and rural livelihoods: understanding local adaptation in the Himalayan region.
  • Published book on Zanskar Economy, Environment and Demography.
  • Agricultural constraints in cold desert region, Zanskar Trans Himalayas, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir Project Cost 20 Lakh Funded by: ICSSR, New Delhi Project period 2013-2016.
  • Intervention of artificial glacier technology to solve water crises due to cilmate change in Ladakh Trans Himalayan region, Funded by Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of science and technology, Government of India, Project Value 47,52000, Project tennure 2016 to 2019.
